January 2012 I made myself a promise to lose 40 pounds before my 40th birthday, mission completed! My second promise is to lose another 40.5 before my half birthday on 1/20/13.

May In Review
I have been slacking on my blog for the past couple of weeks, mostly because I've been a weight loss slacker! In week 20 I lost a total of -0.20 and this week was better with -1.5 (still not sure how I pulled that off). It was Memorial Day Weekend last weekend and I ate everything in sight! My neighbor from home and my neighbor from the beach and I hung out all weekend, had a blast, we ate, drank and were merry! :)
I recently purchased Bob Harper's new book "The Skinny Rules" and have been on the program for the past three days. I told Ed last night I could tell I'm going through sugar withdrawals. I miss my beloved piece of chocolate after lunch. By no means does Bob say you can't have chocolate but not until you reach your goal or you can eat it during you weekly splurge meal. I would rather have wine over chocolate... or maybe wine with chocolate, yum!
The Skinny Rules are really easy to follow and very basic. Drink water, don't drink your calories (Bob addresses the fact that wine does have a place at your table!! I love him for this), eat protein with every meal, eat apples and berries every day, don't eat carbs after lunch. There are 20 total but my favorite is rule #20, have one splurge meal every week!
I have 7 weeks until my birthday and 16.3 pounds to go. That's 2.3 pounds a week, very doable!

Week 19
I have been having so much fun the past three weekends with my friends Mike & Julie and it's finally caught up to me with a +0.6 gain this week. I have 10 weeks to lose 18 pounds before my 40th birthday. I know I can do this! I need to quit indulging in the wine and sweets. I ate an entire chocolate bar last weekend! Yikes (but it was DELICIOUS!) More running and less food/wine is in my future!

Week 18
40x40 version 2.0 has started. I reached my 40 and now and on a mission to
lose another 20 by 7/20. I'm down 2.6 this week.
............................................................................................................................................................
I read an article on MSN.com yesterday about an 800 pound woman who is attempting to set two world's records. One is the be the heaviest woman in the world (current record is 1200 lbs) and the second is to wear the largest wedding dress ever.
It is very perplexing to me why someone would strive to achieve these two goals. It makes me sad for her. Her fiance, a chef, is enabling her behavior. One would think he would be trying to save her, she won't live long at that weight. http://specials.msn.com/a-list/news/susanne-eman-bride-popular-pages

Drum roll please............................ I DID IT!!!!! I reached my goal of losing 40! 40.3 to be exact. My husband said to me this morning, what's next? I'll tell you what is next, 20 more before I turn 40! It will make an even number. It's going to be a lot of hard work, but I can do it!
Yay me! :)

Week 16
I'm so close to the 40 pound weight loss goal! I am one of those people who jumps on the scale every chance they get. I know, I know, I know.... you're not supposed to but I do anyway! Last week I was extremely dehydrated and the scale said I was down 39.9lbs, only .1 to go! I knew as soon as I resumed drinking water the scale would bounce back up, and it did. I have 2.6lbs to go, I am secretly hoping I'll get on the scale next week and those pounds will be GONE! However, I'm going to Hat Island with my dear friend and neighbor and I'm sure there will be some Patron consumed. I'll be diligent about my diet and get lots of exercise!

Week 14 & 15
I missed my week 14 update as I was traveling and was having issues with access my blog on my iPad. I wasn't too upset about that since I had a gain of 1.4 pounds in week 14. After a week of too much food, wine, vacation, then a trip to Little Rock for work I wasn't shocked when the scale was not being nice to me. I wasn't being very nice to my body.... fair is fair!
Week 15, I made nice with my body and the scale rewarded me with a loss of 6 pounds! I only have 3.4 pounds more to reach my 40! My next goal is going to lose another 20 by 7/20/12! If I can keep up my current pace I'll be on track to lose 30 but I don't want to set a goal too high then be disappointed if I don't reach it.
One accomplishment I am really proud of is a 5 mile run I completed on 4/13. I am loving being able to run pain free again! Too much weight = lots of back pain. I am a runner again!

Week 13
Another -4.3 gone! I'm at Hat Island on vacation and have been really good about watching what I eat but have been indulging in wine every day. I have been trying to exercise daily to earn a loss this week.

March results from Hat Island
Hello from blustery Hat Island! March was good to me, I'm now down 32 pounds which means I have 8 more to go! I'll have to come up with another goal once I reach the 40. I am loving the 10 pounds per month average. I hope I don't blow it this week in my happy place. I got up and did some work outside and went for a walk, more like a stroll. I love beach treasurers!

Week 12
A pound is a pound, and that's what I lost this week, 1 pound. I'll be back on Saturday for my month end update. We are going to Hat Island so I may have a delay in the posting! HHID! :)

Week 11
I knew I was going to have a low weight loss week, -.3, boo. It's a pattern I've discovered and I know it's going to be fine however it still sucks. Oh well.
I'm off to Texas on Wednesday for work. It's supposed to be in the upper 70/low 80's! I'm excited to feel some warm sunshine on my face.

Week 10
Another week with a loss! -2.0 which means I only have 13.6 to go until I reach my first goal of 40 pounds lost.
Last weekend I pulled on a pair of jeans that I have not comfortably worn since 2008, maybe even 2007! I was so excited when I wore them out of the house last Saturday night. I have two other pairs of jeans that I'm so close to being able to wear again soon. One pair I think I need 5 pound (we'll call them exhibit A) and the other (exhibit B) probably 10 pounds. I am hoping I'll be able to wear exhibit A to Leilani's birthday party on the 24th.
I'm entering my two weeks of slow loss. As I've been tracking I've noticed I have a big weight loss (4.8, 4.9, 5.5), followed by a solid average loss (1.6, 1.9, 2.0) then two weeks of small losses and one gain. I don't let this discourage me! I know it's coming and I don't let it get me down. (That's a big fat lie! I do get upset but know I shouldn't)
Until next week!!

Week 9
I've noticed a patten over the course of the last 9 weeks. I generally have two really great weeks of weight loss followed by two weeks of so-so weight loss. This week I had an amazing loss of 5.5lbs! I'll guess next week will be about 2 or 3lbs then the following two weeks will be 1 or 2lbs. Now that I have this figured out I won't be as sad when the scale is not being my friend! I also know it's not healthy or realistic to keep losing 5.5lbs every week.
My mom asked me if I was going to adjust my 40lbs goal since I'll most likely reach it before my 40th birthday. I don't want to put too much pressure on myself so my answer is no. Once I reach the 40 I will plan a phase 2 goal.
I played dress up this weekend which consisted of trying on all my smaller clothes. I have a pair of jeans that a so close to being worn outside of the house. My goal this week is to lose enough weight to wear them this coming weekend. Eating right and exercise! That's the plan.

February 2012 end of month review
Another great month with today's total of 21.5 pounds lost. It's been fun trying on old clothes and discovering they now fit (or almost fit!!). I'm going to struggle in the upcoming weeks finding appropriate work clothes as I have about a 15 pound range where I don't have any slacks that fit. I have tons of dresses and skirts so the weather needs to warm up quick! Even with boots I freeze.
I failed miserably with my February goal to exercise every day. First I got sick then I had to take an unexpected trip for work. I am a loyal watcher of The Biggest Loser and this season is "No Excuses". Both of these excuses are poor, I needed to suck it up and go for a walk. I'll do better in March.
I'm really proud of myself and my self control over wine. I have been indulging once or twice a week but stopped after two glasses, with the exception of three occasions. I am dualy proud of my food choices and my self control over portions. It's going to be a battle for the rest of my life. I need to remember that nothing tastes as good as thin feels.
Now that I've lost over 20 pounds I am able to buy myself new running shoes!

Week 8
Down another 1.5 for a total of 18.9. It's been a hard couple of weeks with being sick and traveling. Exercise has been almost non-existent but that's changing as of yesterday! I'll wrap up the month of February later this week.
21 more weeks until I turn the big 4-0!

Week 7
Better late than never! I was traveling on Monday and didn't have time to blog. I did not have a great week in fact had my first gain of 0.4lbs. I attribute this to taking cold medicine and not exercising. I'm nervous for week 8 as I was traveling and had a McDonald's Shamrock Shake! I love them and I treat myself once a year. A.N.D I didn't stop at the shake, I added a Fillet-O-Fish and of course french fries! It's all good now. My cold is gone, I'm home, and back to my good habits! Until Monday.....

Week 6
Another -1.9 lbs gone!
Ed has been an awesome partner exercising with me. We have been going to spin class a couple of times a week and walking outside, weather permitting of course!
My goal for February is to exercise every day. I have been 99.9% successful with this goal with the exception of last Wednesday. I went to physical therapy which did require me to move my body and some great stretching but I wouldn't count it as exercise. I have really glutes, I am literally a pain in the a$$!
I'm catching a cold this week, didn't sleep a wink last night and I'm exhausted. I have PT again tonight but I'm going to do my best to get out and go for a walk.
WWBD (What Would Bob (Harper) Do): Each morning drink a big glass of water while getting ready, eat breakfast (Bob and I both have oatmeal everyday) and move your body!!!

Week 5 - Whoa!
-4.9lbs for the week bringing the grand total to -15.9, almost 16lbs in 5 weeks!!! Whoa! (that's my Joey Lawarence voice)
Last week my I was a little bummed that I has only lost -.8 but was feeling okay since a loss is a loss. I was talking to my dear friend Casey, telling her I didn't know why it was a small loss because I was doing everything right, everything the same. She said maybe the same wasn't working, try something new. Brilliant!
Casey and her hubby have been using sparkpeople.com (and doing amazing!) and I thought I would give it a shot. I have been using Weight Watchers loving the new program and all of the fruit I could eat guilt free. With Sparkpeople you count calories and I discovered I was going way, way, way overboard with the fruit. Now I'm eating within a calorie range and have found 5 small meals are working better for me.
The best part of this journey, with 15 (almost 16!) pounds gone, my golfing has vastly improved. We went to the driving range yesterday and I was C.R.U.S.H.I.N.G. those little balls. I joked on Facebook another 15lbs and I'll be ready for the pro circuit. Maybe I'll get to meet Ricky Fowler, he's so cute.

January 2012 end of month review
Holy smokes the month of January flew by! It seems like yesterday that we were dancing in my kitchen on New Years Eve. I had two main goals for January and I managed to reach them both!
58 days until Hat Island!
- Goal number 1, lose 10 lbs in the month of January. DONE!! The scale this morning read -13.2!
- Goal number 2, no alcohol in the month of January. Not a drop to drink! My co-worker asked me this morning if I was having wine tonight. Probably not but I could if I wanted :)
58 days until Hat Island!

Week 4
Week 4 was a slow weigh loss week for me. -.8 not quite a pound but a loss is a loss and I'll take it.
My January challenge to myself was to not have any alcohol for the entire month, and I DID IT! Technically I have two days left (it's 1/30/12 today) but I know I won't have any. I am going to avoid alcohol in February as well however I am planning a special date night at Purple. The whole point of Purple is to enjoy food paired with wine, it will be a special treat day!
February's challenge is to exercise every day for 29 days. I know your body needs a rest day but I can still go for a leisurely walk to keep my body moving. I absolutely hate weight training, h.a.t.e it with a passion. I am going to force myself to work my arms twice a week and legs twice a week.
I have decided that if I'm not down 20lbs by the end of February I'm hiring a personal trainer!

180 days
I have 180 days to reach my 40x40 goal. Today is Saturday, January 21st and my 40th birthday is July 20th. It's leap year so I'm getting an extra day! I have stopped posting my daily food blog, mostly because I have been so busy! I can start posting it again if anyone is interested. I track all of my food on the Weight Watchers website. I am a huge believer in tracking!
Today is double workout Saturday! I have been having a lot of trouble with my hip/IT band so I haven't been running as it hurts too much. I have been walking at an incline of 2 or 3 at 3.5 to 3.7 mph. Earlier today I ate breakfast (oatmeal, my favorite!), waited 20 minutes then walked for 75 minutes. I just finished my delicious salmon salad lunch and will wait 20 then walk another 45 minutes. Just enough time to watch Private Practice or Desperate Housewives, I haven't decided yet. DH is irritating me and I'm glad they are ending that show.
Hopefully I'll be motivated for double workout Sunday tomorrow!

10 day AdvoCare Herbal Cleanse - I'm down 7.8lbs in 13 days!
I am a huge fan the the AdvoCare Herbal Cleanse. I have done this a few times over the past three years and feel AMAZING during and after. Some cleanses have a bad stigma about them. Some don't allow you to eat, some have you running to the restroom every 10 minutes, AdvoCare's cleanse is not this type of cleanse. It removes the bad stuff and puts the good stuff back in your body. AdvoCare explains it better check out the description below or check out the website: AdvoCare Herbal Cleanse
AdvoCare® Herbal Cleanse system can help rid your body of toxins and waste with its unique blend of herbal ingredients. Using a systematic approach, this 10-day system guides you day by day through the steps for thorough internal cleansing and improved digestion. Herbal Cleanse supports the body's metabolic systems and general health during the detoxification process by helping to keep energy levels up, aiding in removing impurities and supporting the immune system. Some people who use Herbal Cleanse for the first time experience an encouraging weight reduction and/or reduction in inches when they pair the system with the recommended diet and exercise.
I weighted myself this morning and I'm down 9.8 pounds, this cleanse has a lot to do with that amazing number. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me!

Day 12 & 13
I never got around to blogging yesterday. I was so busy working on a huge project at work, but the time I got home I was too tired. Today is Saturday, YAY! It started out with a massage which was dare I say painful? I have a lot of tight muscles and knots. It was not a relaxing spa type of massage, but I feel good. Georgia is in an all weekend basketball tournament so we'll be watching a lot of hoops. They won both games today! Go Grizzlies!

Day 11
:( big sigh.... I was supposed to get a massage after work but there was a mix up and it wasn't scheduled. Can people actually run their business without email? What if it's the best way for the consumer to communicate? Don't advertise on your website that you have email if you don't check it! They actually told me if I needed to communicate by email I should find someone to do business with. Guess what? I will! Seattle Hill Chiropractic, I'm not a fan.
Anyway... same old boring eating. I think after 11 days I'm going to have to change it up before I cheat! I saw one of my co-workers with a piece of chocolate today and I almost ripped it out of her hand!!
Breakfast, 7am
1/2 c steel cut oatmeal
1/2 c walnuts
no snack...no time!
Lunch, 11:45am
1 c Lentils (that's new!) they were tasty, I made them a while back and found them in the freezer.
3oz chicken
Green Giant veggies
1 c grapefruit
4pm - 17 saltine crackers
Dinner, 6:15
3oz Tilapia
1/4 c of quinoa
mushrooms and snap peas
No exercise, I feel super guilty but I'm a little foul after my work day and not getting a massage. I'm going to bed as soon as my food digests!

Day 5
Green tea has been my new drink of choice this week. I've heard that it's good for many things including heart, liver, inflammation and weight loss. While my heart and liver are important to me the latter of the four are most intriguing to me. Inflammation since I've been exercising and weight loss.
Thanks to my friend Andrea who gave me the idea to have double workouts this weekend, morning and evening I'm going to need the green tea for inflammation for sure! Omega-3 will help with this as well.
Breakfast 7am
Starbucks new Chicken Sausage, egg white wrap. Delicious and not toooo bad for you. It was 7 WW points.
Snack, 9:15am
2c Strawberries and orange wedges
Lunch, 11am - leftovers from last night

3, small corn tortillas
1/2 c refried beans
Lettuce
Tomato
3oz of chicken

7 AP for 60 minutes on the treadmill. (fighting depression of not having wine! Kidding)

Day 3
Oh what a day. Today is one of those days that I want to come home, open a bottle of wine and watch every show on my DVR. Instead I opened a can a club soda and served it with a twist of lime. Refreshing and a good mock-tail!
Breakfast, 7am
1/2 c steel cut oats
1/4 c walnuts
I love this breakfast when I have steel cut oats. They take a log time to cook so I don't have them too often. One more day tomorrow then I'll try something new.
Snack at 9am

1 small orange
Lunch at 11:30 - the same as yesterday! My leftovers are now gone.

1 c cucumbers

Getting started
It's January 2, 2012, and I will be celebrating my 40th birthday on July 20th. I have made a commitment to lose 40 before I turn 40. With the help of my friends, family and wonderful husband I know I can do it. My goal is to blog my daily food and exercise to hold myself accountable and also to help my fellow friends who are living a healthy lifestyle. The "D" word (aka diet) is not a part of this plan. My plan is to eat right, exercise and most of all be happy!
